I would like to incorporate in our wedding my Fiance’s Army background. I would just like to put a few decorations on the cake and in the hall. He was a Scout in the army.

I don’t know a lot about Army Scouts, but I looked it up online and it seems like you have your work cut out for you. I think this will be a bit difficult to do, but here are my suggestions:

1) Buy camouflage grosgrain ribbon to trim the cake with. You can also use the ribbon to hang wreaths or flower arrangements. Camouflage paper could be a detail on your invitations, programs or table numbers.

2) Since scouts are in charge of tracking enemy vehicles and their movements, is there a graphic representation that you could pull from that to use? For example, if the screen that tracks looks like concentric circles, maybe you could take those circles and use them on the cake. It would be an abstract representation, but would have a cool modern vibe.

3) Some old scout vehicles had stars printed on their doors. Current scouts seem to have a star patch on the left sleeve of their uniform. You could take that motif and use it throughout your wedding. Obviously, it conveys a patriotic spirit.

4) You could print the riflescope image on your Save-The-Dates and write "Target Acquired" or "Matrimony is in Sight". I don’t know how you feel about having weapons involved in your wedding, but it is a cute Save the Date.

Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Obviously, having your fiance wear his uniform and using army green would be the easiest way of incorporating the military into your wedding, but it didn’t sound like you wanted to go overboard. Hopefully, one of my suggestions above will appeal to you.

Im getting married on the 29th of December 2010. The theme is black and white but im haveing red roses. Thing is i dont have a clue what to have as table decorations my venue wont allow candles and we have a tiny budget so cant afford flowers. Can anyone help with ideas please. I should also say that my other half hates balloons.

Go for a walk in the woods..choose sticks/grape vines..that sort of thing. Spray paint or dip in white paint…wrap small short or tall bundles (depending on your vase) with white and black ribbon and place in a glass container. You can use the ribbon on the container instead of wrapping the vines with them. Play around with the look till you are happy with it. You should be able to get the ribbon at the dollar store too to save some money or watch local fabric stores for deals on notions. Get the containers at a local dollar store. Cheap but looks simple and elegant for a wedding table. You can get one red rose for the middle of each, but is not necessary. You can use the battery operated tea lights, but they can get pricey..try buying in bulk from local venues or online. We had to use these for my daughter’s wedding..but is a great idea.
